Meet Shelby Sauer, MSW, LMSW

Stop Overthinking Everything and Start Trusting Yourself

Work with Shelby if you’re ready to put yourself first, feel more confident in your decisions, and stop carrying responsibility for everyone else’s happiness.

Overthinking Everything is Exhausting.

You spend so much time worrying about what other people need, replaying conversations, and trying to make the right decision that it can be hard to hear what you actually want.

You may seem organized and capable on the outside while privately struggling with anxiety, low self-worth, relationship stress, or the feeling that you’re letting people down.

Sessions with me are honest, collaborative, and never overly formal. We can talk about difficult things while still finding room for humor and laughter. You don’t need to arrive with the perfect explanation for what’s wrong or know exactly what you want to discuss.

Together, we’ll look beneath the overthinking to better understand the emotions, relationships, and experiences driving it. And we’ll work on practical ways to set boundaries, cope with difficult feelings, communicate more openly, and trust yourself when making decisions.

I’ll support you in doing meaningful work both inside and outside of therapy so the insight you gain in our sessions can create real changes in your everyday life.

My clients often come to therapy wanting to feel happier, more hopeful, and more secure in who they are. They want to stop living for everyone else and feel confident putting themselves first.

Starting therapy can feel awkward or intimidating. But you don’t have to have it all figured out before you begin. We’ll find our footing together.

Frequently Asked Questions About Working With Shelby

What if I don’t know what to talk about in therapy?

You don’t need to arrive with a plan. We can start with what has been bothering you recently and work together from there. I’ll ask questions and help guide the conversation so you aren’t responsible for filling every silence.

What is your personality like as a therapist? +

I’m honest, collaborative, and easy to talk to. I take our work seriously, but sessions don’t have to feel formal or heavy all the time. There is plenty of room for humor, laughter, and being yourself.

Can you help me stop overthinking everything? +

Yes. We’ll explore what drives the overthinking and help you recognize when it begins. Then we’ll practice ways to manage anxious thoughts, make decisions with greater confidence, and spend less time replaying every interaction.

Why do I feel responsible for keeping everyone happy? +

You may have learned that prioritizing other people helps you avoid conflict, maintain relationships, or feel accepted. Therapy can help you understand where this pattern began and separate what you are responsible for from what you are not.

Can therapy help me put myself first without feeling guilty? +

Yes. Putting yourself first doesn’t mean you have to stop caring about other people. We’ll work on understanding your needs, setting healthier boundaries, and making choices that support you without being controlled by guilt.

Can I talk about both family and relationship problems? +

Absolutely. Family experiences often affect how we communicate, handle conflict, and behave in other relationships. We can explore these connections and work on healthier ways to relate to the people who matter to you.

Do you work with teens and young adults? +

Yes. I especially enjoy working with teens and young women between the ages of 16 and 32 who struggle with overthinking, anxiety, self-esteem, family dynamics, relationships, and major life changes.

How long will I need to attend therapy? +

That depends on what you want to work on, how long you have been struggling, and the progress you make. We’ll regularly discuss how therapy is going and whether your needs or goals have changed.

How will I know whether you’re the right therapist for me? +

You should feel heard, respected, and increasingly comfortable being honest with me. During your free consultation, we’ll discuss what brings you to therapy and what you hope will change. You can then decide whether working together feels right.

Do you accept insurance? +

Yes. Shelby accepts Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, UnitedHealthcare/Optum, and Aetna. Contact us if you would like help confirming your specific plan’s coverage before beginning therapy. You can also pay out of pocket if needed; in other words, you don’t need insurance to access therapy with Shelby.

How do I start therapy with Shelby Sauer? +

Fill out the contact form on this page to request a free consultation. Shelby will follow up within 24 hours, Monday through Friday. If you both feel it’s a good fit, you’ll schedule your first weekly therapy session.
