You’re Tired of Understanding Your Trauma. You Want to Actually Feel Different.
You may be incredibly self-aware.
You know why you react the way you do, while driving, or with people, or just inside your own mind.
But knowing hasn't stopped the reaction.
Your body still braces for something bad to happen.
You replay things long after they're over.
You say yes when you desperately want to say no because disappointing someone feels unbearable.
A painful memory can still bring up the same fear, shame, anger, or helplessness it did years ago.
And sometimes you wonder:
"If I understand myself this well, why am I still struggling?"
Because insight can be an important part of healing. But insight alone isn't enough.
EMDR gives you a proven way to work with and release what may be keeping you stuck.

EMDR Helps Your Brain Finish What Trauma Interrupted
When something overwhelming happens, sometimes the experience doesn't settle into our brains the way other memories do.
That's why something happening today can bring back an emotional reaction that feels much bigger than the present moment. In other words, we get triggered.
Instead of only talking through what happened, EMDR uses bilateral stimulation while you work with specific memories, beliefs, emotions, and physical sensations.
EMDR gives you a structured way to work with those experiences and triggers.
Over time, the experience can become less emotionally charged. You still know what happened. It just doesn't have to keep happening to you.
At Holistic Hope, EMDR can also be integrated with IFS and other proven methods when appropriate. Our goal is to always go beyond traditional talk therapy, and get you the relief you seek.

"Trauma shows up less like a memory and more like a belief you can't shake: that you're not safe, you're not enough, or something bad is always about to happen. With EMDR, we'll work through the experiences behind those beliefs so they don't get to keep defining how you see yourself, your relationships, or what comes next."

EMDR Therapy FAQs
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It's a trauma-focused therapy that helps you process distressing experiences that still feel emotionally "stuck."
Rather than relying only on conversation, EMDR incorporates bilateral stimulation while you work with memories, emotions, beliefs, and physical sensations connected to an experience. That’s just a fancy way of saying alternating eye movements, or hand tapping, or audio cues, etc.
We do left, right, left, right. We can explain more during our free consultation.
The goal isn't to erase the memory. It's to help the experience become something that happened in your past instead of something your mind and body keep responding to as if it's happening now.
EMDR therapy in Houston can help with complex trauma, PTSD, anxiety, people-pleasing, boundaries, and experiences that leave people feeling stuck in survival mode.
EMDR may be incorporated when unresolved experiences are contributing to things like intrusive memories, intense emotional reactions, shame, self-blame, anxiety, or difficulty feeling safe.
We'll talk about what you're experiencing first rather than assuming EMDR is automatically the right approach.
No, EMDR doesn't require you to give a detailed verbal account of everything you've experienced. And you stay in control of what you share.
If you're someone who has avoided therapy because the idea of explaining every painful detail sounds unbearable, tell us that during your consultation.
With EMDR, we don’t need much aside from “I’m thinking of a certain memory and feeling a 7 out of 10 activation.” We can work with that.
The goal isn't to make you relive your trauma.
Traumatic memories and difficult emotions can come up during EMDR, which is why preparation and pacing matter.
You don't earn progress by becoming as overwhelmed as possible.
If your nervous system says slow down, we slow down. We will never force a process before you’re ready.
Because being able to explain something isn't necessarily the same as having fully processed it.
You might intellectually understand exactly what happened and why it affects you while still having a powerful emotional or physical reaction when something triggers the memory.
That's the gap EMDR is designed to work with.
You don't need one dramatic event that divides your life into "before" and "after" to deserve EMDR trauma therapy.
Sometimes what's still affecting you comes from repeated experiences: growing up without emotional safety, abusive or unhealthy relationships, chronic invalidation, complicated family dynamics, or years of feeling responsible for everybody else.
Our therapists also work with trauma from abusive relationships, childhood experiences, sudden loss, chronic people-pleasing, and experiences of feeling unsafe.
Then you may feel especially at home here.
This practice was built around people who feel deeply. Feeling intensely doesn't mean EMDR isn't for you.
It means pacing, preparation, trust, and nervous-system regulation matter.
We don't expect you to force your way through therapy, and are here to support you!
No, EMDR is one tool in our therapy toolkit.
When needed, our therapists can use IFS, DBT, CBT, EFT, SSP, and other trauma-informed approaches depending on the therapist and what you might need.
Your therapy should fit you, not the other way around.
Yes. We currently accept Aetna, BCBS, and UnitedHealth/Optum.
The practice also offers sliding-scale options and support for out-of-network reimbursement.
Start by submitting the appointment request form.
You'll speak with someone from the team about what you've been experiencing and what you're hoping will change.
From there, we'll determine whether EMDR or another approach makes the most sense and schedule your first session.
You Don't Have to Spend the Rest of Your Life Reacting to What Happened
You survived it. You adapted to it. And now you can heal it for good. EMDR therapy can help the past finally feel like the past, so you can feel calmer in your body, safer in your relationships, and more like yourself again.
