DBT Therapy in Houston

You Feel Everything So Intensely. And You’re Ready to Change That.

If your emotions often go from zero to a hundred, and you say or do things you later regret, that can feel like too much to hold alone. DBT therapy helps you understand what you're feeling, ease big emotions, handle hard moments better, and build a life that doesn't feel controlled by the next emotional wave.

As seen on

You’re Not “Too Much.” But Sometimes What You Feel Is Too Much to Carry Alone.

Maybe you've spent years hearing some version of the same thing:

“You're too sensitive. You're overreacting. Just let it go. Calm down.”

But you can't simply turn your emotions off. When you're hurt, you're really hurt. When you're anxious, your whole body feels it.

When someone is upset with you, you immediately start wondering what you did wrong and what you need to do to fix it.

Many start to overthink. To people-please.

Some avoid conflict until they can't anymore.

Some put everyone else first and then quietly resent how little room there seems to be for them.

If feeling too much and too intensely, struggling with boundaries and people-pleasing, and not being able to stop sound familiar, DBT can help.

We work with Houstonites who genuinely want to make changes in their lives and are ready to finally put themselves first.

What DBT Therapy Can Give You

Tools you remember to use when you're getting overwhelmed.

Less spiraling, replaying conversations, and worrying.

The ability to say no without drowning in guilt.

Being able to communicate what you need (and get it more often).

Greater trust in yourself.

DBT therapy in Houston can help you get a clear and calm mind, the ability to say no without guilt or shame, and knowing when and how to set boundaries. You can develop self-worth and feel like yourself again.

“I finally feel calm, even when things aren’t going my way”

(What Makes Holistic Hope Different)

This practice is built on a simple belief: real healing happens when your nervous system feels safe (not just when things make sense intellectually). You deserve care that helps you feel steady, not overwhelmed by the process.

DBT for people who feel deeply
Holistic Hope was built for people who feel everything. We aren't interested in teaching you how to become less emotional. We're interested in helping you become less controlled by what you feel.
Boundaries without becoming someone else
For many of our clients, emotional overwhelm and people-pleasing go hand in hand. DBT can help you communicate clearly, tolerate someone else's disappointment, and stop abandoning yourself just to keep the peace.
Skills that leave the therapy room
Knowing what you should do and being able to do it when you're overwhelmed are two very different things. So DBT is about learning and practicing concrete skills you can carry real moments when you feel challenged.
Deep work can still feel human
Serious therapy doesn't require you to be serious every second. The strongest therapeutic relationships are ones where clients are honest, engaged, and willing to work while sessions still have room for humor and laughter.
More than one tool
We don't force every problem through a DBT-shaped hole. Depending on what you're carrying, your therapist may also integrate EMDR, IFS, EFT, CBT, Safe and Sound Protocol, and other approaches, holistically.

DBT Gives You Something To Do With What You Feel

When emotions get intense, it's easy to feel like you have two options:

Act on them. Or shove them down.

DBT helps create another option.

You learn how to notice what's happening, tolerate what you're feeling, understand what you need, and choose what to do next.

That work can include building skills around emotional regulation, managing distress, staying present, and communicating more effectively in relationships.

And at Holistic Hope, we integrate DBT with deeper trauma and nervous-system work if that's what you need.

Because sometimes you need to understand why something hurts so much.

And sometimes you need a concrete way to get through the next ten minutes without making your life harder.

Good therapy can make room for both.

DBT Therapy FAQs

What is DBT therapy?

DBT stands for Dialectical Behavior Therapy.

It's a therapy approach that helps you better understand and manage intense emotions while building practical skills for dealing with stressful situations and relationships.

A big part of the work is learning that two things can be true at once:

What you're feeling makes sense.

And you can learn to respond differently.

You don't have to invalidate yourself in order to change.

What does DBT help with? +

At Holistic Hope, DBT can be one part of therapy for clients struggling with intense emotions, anxiety, trauma, difficult relationship patterns, people-pleasing, boundaries, or feeling stuck in survival mode.

If you experience emotions intensely and want deeper change, or are self-aware yet prone to overthinking and putting others ahead of yourself, our Houston DBT therapists can help.

What skills will I learn in DBT? +

DBT commonly focuses on four areas:

Mindfulness: noticing what's happening without immediately getting swept away by it.

Emotion regulation: understanding your emotions and learning ways to respond when they become intense.

Distress tolerance: getting through difficult moments without automatically reacting in ways that make things worse.

Interpersonal effectiveness: communicating what you need, setting boundaries, and handling conflict more effectively.

The goal isn't memorizing a bunch of therapy vocabulary.

It's having something useful to do when real life gets hard.

Does DBT mean my emotions are the problem? +

No. If you’ve spent years feeling like you’re "too sensitive" or feel things too intensely, we can help. We reject the idea that feeling deeply is inherently a flaw.

We aren't trying to make you stop feeling. We're helping you build a different relationship with what you feel.

Is this a DBT skills group or individual therapy? +

Our service is for individuals, though if there is enough interest, we can put together a DBT skills group.

For best results, we recommend individual therapy or group therapy supported by individual therapy.

Either way, you’ll make the best progress with one-on-one support.

What if I already know coping skills but don't use them? +

You're not alone.

Sometimes the problem isn't that nobody ever taught you a coping skill.

It's that when your emotions reach a certain intensity, everything you know becomes much harder to access.

When depression or distress becomes too intense, coping skills can go out the window.

Therapy gives you somewhere to practice applying those skills to what's actually happening in your life, so you can access them more readily next time life happens.

Is DBT only for people with borderline personality disorder? +

No. At Holistic Hope, DBT is one of several therapeutic tools that may be incorporated depending on what you're experiencing and what helps.

We use DBT with trauma, emotional intensity, people-pleasing, boundaries, anxiety, relationships, and survival mode.

It’s a versatile tool. We can help determine if it’s the right approach for your concerns.

What if trauma is underneath my emotional reactions? +

Then we can address that too.

Sometimes skills help you handle what happens today while trauma work helps you understand and process why your system responds the way it does in the first place.

Holistic Hope integrates approaches including EMDR, IFS, Safe and Sound Protocol, DBT, CBT, and EFT depending on the therapist and client.

You aren't limited to one approach simply because you started with DBT.

Do you accept insurance? +

Yes, we accept Aetna, BCBS, and UnitedHealth/Optum.

The practice also offers sliding-scale options and support for out-of-network reimbursement.

You can also pay by cash if you prefer to keep sessions private from insurance companies.

How do I get started? +

Start by submitting the appointment request form on this page.

You'll speak with someone from the team about what's going on, where you feel stuck, and what you're hoping will change.

From there, we'll determine whether therapy incorporating DBT or another approach makes the most sense for you, and if we have a therapist who can help you.

Learn to Handle Tough Emotions Easily with DBT Therapy
